In southern and central Finland the snow settles at the beginning of December and melts in open places in mid or late April, and in the forests (65% of the total land area) at the beginning of May. In northern Finland the snow settles about 5 weeks earlier and melts about 3 weeks later than in the south. All the runs have been cut through thickly forested slopes and there is a good variety of slopes for all abilities from beginners to the more advanced skiers.
